Today marks a momentous day in AGS Rugby history — for the first time ever, our school has won a trophy at 1st XV level, made all the more special as it comes in our 50th Anniversary year.

But this journey didn’t begin with the first whistle of the season. It began in Cape Town back in July — two gruelling weeks of training, touring and forging bonds that would become the backbone of this squad. We left the Southern Hemisphere not just as teammates, but as brothers, believing we could stand toe-to-toe with the best schoolboy teams out there.

This season has been anything but straightforward. We’ve faced setbacks, tough defeats and moments that tested our resilience. But through it all, this squad never wavered. They grew, learned and fought for each other, for the jersey and for the school.

Today, their commitment, character and sheer determination were rewarded as they became Danske Bank 1st XV Schools’ Trophy Champions.

A huge thank you to our incredible pupils, parents and supporters. Your unwavering backing from the sidelines kept our men going in those tough moments — the noise from the crowd will live long in the memory.

Thank you to MCB for hosting us at the iconic Pirrie Park — a fitting stage for a historic occasion.

Credit also to Larne Grammar School for a fiercely contested final, played in the very best spirit of schoolboy rugby.

At the final whistle, the scenes were the stuff of fairytales — hundreds of supporters flooding onto the pitch to celebrate with the warriors who left everything on the field. Tears from players, coaches and supporters showed just how much this means to everyone connected with our school.

This victory is more than just a trophy. It’s a symbol of what can be achieved when belief, hard work and unity come together.
